Authentic

In the film Florence Foster Jenkins the heroine is convinced she sings beautifully, and everyone around her applauds although they hear something else entirely. We laugh at her only until we notice that our own lives are often a song sung completely off key. That picture opens a sermon about the first psalm (Psalm 1). The Psalter is the only book of the Bible that records words spoken by people to God, and it opens with a portrait of a happy person whose life is defined by God’s word rather than by other people’s applause. Listen if you are tired of a life that sounds one way outside and another inside.
