After a few hours in a museum there comes a moment when you no longer want to look at another great canvas and are hunting desperately for a very ordinary little sign with an arrow to the toilets. Nobody picnics beside a road sign to Warsaw either, because a sign always points to something further on. That observation opens a sermon about the two signs Jesus left behind, baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Romans 6 and 1 Corinthians 11). Augustine called them sermons without words, because they remind you who you are and what it cost. Listen if you take part in them out of habit and want to see what they actually point to.

What For?
A Christian worship service is not complicated in form, but that does not mean it is not worth pausing for a moment to reflect on the meaning of its various elements. The purpose of all this is to experience worship even more deeply and to nurture our relationship with God and His Church even more consciously.
