Just after the war the twenty four year old Tadeusz Różewicz wrote that words had become empty and interchangeable, that man and animal, love and hatred now meant the same. He ended with a cry: I am looking for a teacher and a master, let him separate the light from the darkness. That cry opens a sermon about Paul’s letters to Timothy. The young pastor led a church in which everything collided, and Paul gave him no new philosophy but told him to hold on to Scripture, because that alone does not change with the fashion.
