In childhood games everyone wanted to be the hero, and the villain’s part always fell to whoever lost the draw. We read the Bible the same way: we happily step into the heroes’ shoes, and nobody names a child Judas. That observation opens a sermon about the last supper and the betrayal (John 13). Judas and Peter both failed and both were sorry, but only one of them believed that God’s forgiveness reaches that far, and that decided everything.
