They are sitting in a café, she is telling him about her day, he is staring into his cup and thinking about work, so he hears the accusation that he is not listening at all. A few weeks later they are both in a doctor’s office at night after their son’s accident, and for the first time they truly listen, because a life is at stake. That story opens a sermon about the calling of Samuel (1 Samuel 3). The boy runs three times to Eli before anyone tells him the right answer, and only then does he say: speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. Listen if you want to learn to recognise when God is speaking to you.

Dangerous Prayers
What could be dangerous about prayer? But if prayer is a conversation with God, then some of those conversations can bring about more change than you might expect. When you say to God, “Who are You, Lord? Examine me, Lord. Speak to me, Lord, and let Your will be done, Lord”, God takes these prayers seriously and begins to change your life. Do you dare to have such a conversation with God?
