In a courtroom in a small American town, a witness calmly lists the failings of the prosecutor, then of the defense attorney, until the judge hastily cuts the questioning short. That scene opens a study of the book of Amos (Amos 1-2), a prophet who first announces judgment on Israel’s neighbours and only at the end takes aim at his own audience. The Time of the Prophets
In the whirlwind of everyday life, it’s easy to forget that we live in God’s presence and that we are accountable to Him for our choices. That’s why, sometimes, God has to step into our world to remind us of this. In the Old Testament, He did this through the prophets, who were His voice to the people. Although their books were written centuries ago, their voice still rings out clearly and is astonishingly relevant to us today as well. We, too, have similar questions and face similar challenges. So let’s listen to what God is saying to us through His prophets known as the “minor prophets.” They were called this not because they were less important, but simply because their books were shorter. Short and very timely.
