You do not know me, you have no idea what I have been through, how often have we explained today’s choices that way? This sermon sets two brothers side by side: Joseph, sold into slavery and falsely accused, and Judah, who spent years running from responsibility and hurting others (Genesis 37-50). One stays faithful despite the wrong done to him; the other, after years of deceit, finally admits his guilt and offers his own life in place of his brother’s, and God makes room in his story for both. Listen if you need to hear that your past does not have to define your life.

Andy Stanley once said, “Your lack of responsibility will eventually become someone else’s responsibility.” In other words, if you don’t take responsibility for what has been entrusted to you, someone else will have to take that responsibility for you. A wise life is one in which we don’t shift the blame onto others but face challenges head-on; we don’t burden others with the need to hold our hands, but instead become a source of support for others ourselves.
