A high-school wrestler trains all year imagining one match, against the opponent he finally has to beat. That story opens an account of Jacob, the schemer who spent his whole life seizing blessing by cunning and force, until one night by a river he was left alone and faced someone he could not outsmart (Genesis 32). The sermon shows that God met Jacob not in his moment of success, but when he had nothing left and nowhere to go. Listen if your own life is beginning to shake and everything you built is turning out to be fragile.
