A woman in the sanctuary at Shiloh moves her lips without a sound, the priest takes her for a drunk, while she is in fact pouring out the deepest pain of her life before God. That scene opens a reflection on the story of Hannah (1 Samuel 1), childless and living under the full weight of her culture’s expectations. The sermon moves through three acts, from the land of affliction, through the choice Hannah refused to make the way others urged her to, to despair turned into dancing.
