A teacher asked her class to say how they spend time with their dad. For some pupils that is the most ordinary question in the world, for others it is a question about someone who is not there and never will be. That question opens a sermon about the first chapter of Second Samuel (2 Samuel 1). David learns of the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, and instead of celebrating the end of his persecutor he composes a lament and allows himself to grieve, because in the Bible loss is neither shamed nor passed over in silence. Listen if you are carrying a loss you find hard to speak about.

Why Me?
In life, we go through various experiences and feel all kinds of emotions. Sometimes it seems like no one understands us, because we’re the only ones struggling with them. Sometimes we also ask ourselves, “Why me?” However, when we turn to the Bible, we can view our struggles from a different perspective. What’s more, we discover that our experiences are nothing new, because many people before us have gone through them, and many Christians are going through them right now-we are not alone.
