Christopher McCandless fled American society all the way to Alaska and moved into an abandoned bus. He died there in 1992, and hunters found beside him a book with a handwritten note in which he had concluded that happiness is only real when there is someone to share it with. From there the preacher raises the question of the church: what if it is a scam, a social club, or a course in good manners? The answer comes from the letter to Timothy (1 Timothy 2), because the church exists to connect people to Jesus, and sin is not merely a bad deed but the result of lost intimacy with the Creator. Listen if you go to church out of habit and no longer know what for.

Why are we here? We invite everyone …
As the Tomy Christian Community: “We invite everyone to a relationship with Christ, who changes everything.” This simple sentence reminds us why we are here and what we do as a church. As followers of Jesus, not only have we had the privilege of responding to His invitation, not only do we enjoy a relationship with Him and experience how He transforms us, but we also want to pass this invitation on to others so that they, too, can come to know Jesus and experience the same thing. That is exactly why we are here.
