A preacher comes back from the dedication of a new church building in northern Ghana and admits honestly that he does not know whether it will end even one of that region’s problems. Out of that admission grows a reflection on Titus 3 and two uncomfortable truths: we will not change the world, and we cannot even change ourselves. The sermon then goes further, to the kindness of God that transforms a person regardless of their efforts, and to the invitation simply to carry light where we already are. Why are we here? We invite everyone …
As the Tomy Christian Community: “We invite everyone to a relationship with Christ, who changes everything.” This simple sentence reminds us why we are here and what we do as a church. As followers of Jesus, not only have we had the privilege of responding to His invitation, not only do we enjoy a relationship with Him and experience how He transforms us, but we also want to pass this invitation on to others so that they, too, can come to know Jesus and experience the same thing. That is exactly why we are here.
