Responsibility

A third-grader talked his teacher into letting him be the one to take the class hamster home for the weekend. He carried it around in its plastic exercise ball like a basketball, dropped it, and then in a panic kicked the ball down the stairs. That story opens a sermon on the parable of the talents (Matthew 25) and on the question of why the master reacts so harshly to buried money. The answer is not laziness: had the master never returned, money from a bank would have gone to his family, while buried money would have stayed with the servant, so the problem was the heart, not the missing profit. Listen and ask what of all that was entrusted to you is still lying buried.
