Maciej took out one more loan to pay off the last one, until his debt grew into a sum he could no longer live with. That story opens a reflection on self-control, which Scripture places last among the fruit of the Spirit, and on an ancient image from Proverbs (Proverbs 25): a man without self-control is like a captured city left without walls.
