Serving

A theology student was stuck in a rut: lectures, books, one more set of exams and less and less sense in any of it. He broke out of it only when he began helping with the youngest children, because for the first time in ages he was doing something nobody was grading. That story opens a sermon about serving others. Jesus never spoke of service as an optional extra for volunteers, but took a towel himself and washed his disciples’ feet, showing that greatness in his kingdom is measured by an entirely different standard.
