Silence

Tomaszów Maz. Łódź Rafał Piekarski 31.12.2023 Sermon 11 of 11

Around 1330 the first public mechanical clock began striking the hours on a church tower in Milan, and from then on time stopped being the rhythm of life and became a tool of productivity. That scene opens a reflection on noise, hurry and the chronic exhaustion that turns out to be the greatest obstacle to knowing God. The sermon moves toward Psalm 46 and a surprisingly simple proposal: five minutes of silence a day, in which God makes himself known as fortress and refuge. Listen if you sense that your life has simply become too loud and too fast.

Wait for the King

When we look at the world with all its social injustice, exploitation, and corrupt politicians, we wish that God would come as King and set things right. The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus as the promised King who came into the world. Its opening chapters, which tell of His birth, help us understand that this is a completely different King, from a completely different Kingdom than we expected. Yet He is the King we need.
