This sermon turns to the surprisingly blunt words Moses speaks to Israel on the edge of the promised land (Deuteronomy 18) and shows what the practices called detestable there have in common. But the warning cuts both ways: false spirituality can also grow inside the church, on the lips of those who say “thus says the Lord” far too easily. What Does Spiritual Mean?
What do we mean when we say that something is “spiritual” or not? In today’s world, this word has taken on a multitude of meanings and associations. Meanwhile, Scripture shows us that everything we do with our lives is spiritual in nature, “whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31) and should reflect His nature. How, then, can what we do reflect the Trinitarian nature of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
