One man owes ten thousand talents, a sum he could not earn in many thousands of years of work. The other owes him a hundred denarii, a few months’ wages. That difference opens a sermon about the parable in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew (Matthew 18). The servant whose unpayable debt was cancelled walked out of the palace and seized by the throat a colleague who owed him a trifle, and it is on that contrast that Jesus shows why forgiveness is not optional for a Christian. Listen if you are carrying a hurt you cannot let go of.

When Jesus taught, he often told seemingly simple stories called parables. At first glance, they resembled IMAGES of everyday life. However, when his listeners looked closely at them, those IMAGES became MIRRORS in which they could see their own faces. And as they continued to look at them, the MIRRORS became WINDOWS through which they could view life from a completely new perspective, because in these stories, somewhere BETWEEN THE LINES, important lessons about God and life are hidden.
