God the Father is easy enough to picture, and so is Jesus, but how do you picture the Holy Spirit? One student admitted that for years he imagined him as a tiny man shut up inside him, banging on the pipes of his conscience like a caretaker locked in a building. This sermon turns to the words of Jesus in John’s Gospel (John 14-16), where the Spirit is called helper, defender and advocate, the one who lets us see with the heart what the eyes cannot see. What Does Spiritual Mean?
What do we mean when we say that something is “spiritual” or not? In today’s world, this word has taken on a multitude of meanings and associations. Meanwhile, Scripture shows us that everything we do with our lives is spiritual in nature, “whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31) and should reflect His nature. How, then, can what we do reflect the Trinitarian nature of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
