An adopted child never has to pass a test or prove their worth to be given a place at the family table, but the moment they step through the front door, they have to learn how to live in the house. That picture opens a sermon about Israel, standing at the foot of Sinai after four hundred years of slavery and receiving the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20). God parted the sea and rained bread from heaven long before He said a word about obedience, because the commandments are not a test to pass in order to earn freedom, but a way of living in the family you already belong to. Listen if you are tired of standing far off like a slave and want to draw near to the Father as a child.
