A July morning in 1909: two rivals dream of being the first to fly across the English Channel, one looked at the weather and went back to bed, the other climbed into the weaker machine and made history. That story opens a reflection on the parable of the talents (Matthew 25), about a God who entrusts His servants with what He has and expects them not to bury it in the ground out of laziness or fear. The sermon confronts our excuses and shows that the path to true significance is serving with what we have received. Listen and ask yourself: what are you doing with what God has entrusted to you?

What’s important in this series is its reference to the broader picture of the Missio Dei—that is, God’s plan for the redemption of ALL creation. The point is to show that everything we do—our commitment, our self-sacrifice, our prayer, our fasting, or our acts of service—is all part of a larger story, and we want to do these things because we are part of the Missio Dei, or God’s mission.
