Towards the end of life people say what they consider most important and want it remembered. Jesus was thirty three and knew that the last week of his life was beginning, so every sentence from those days carries a different weight. That awareness opens a Palm Sunday sermon on the twenty fifth chapter of Matthew (Matthew 25). Jesus speaks there of the virgins waiting with their lamps, of the talents entrusted to servants, and of a judgement decided by what we did for the least. Listen if waiting for Jesus sounds to you like doing nothing.

When Jesus taught, he often told seemingly simple stories called parables. At first glance, they resembled IMAGES of everyday life. However, when his listeners looked closely at them, those IMAGES became MIRRORS in which they could see their own faces. And as they continued to look at them, the MIRRORS became WINDOWS through which they could view life from a completely new perspective, because in these stories, somewhere BETWEEN THE LINES, important lessons about God and life are hidden.
