Ignaz Semmelweis proved that washing hands before delivering a baby cut maternal mortality from thirty per cent to two, and the medical world mocked him and threw the idea out. He died in a psychiatric hospital without living to see anyone listen. That story opens a sermon about Elijah, Ahab and the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17). The king would not listen to God’s word, so God sent his prophet to a poor widow who believed, and along the way taught the prophet to trust him one day at a time. Listen if you talk to those close to you about God and feel that nobody hears it.
