A thousand days of war in Ukraine, children bullied at school, hatred handed down from one generation to the next, that is where this sermon starts, along with the question of whether God intends to do anything about it. It looks for an answer in the shortest book of the Old Testament, the prophet Obadiah, who accuses Edom, Israel’s brother nation, of pride and of gloating over another’s downfall. The Time of the Prophets
In the whirlwind of everyday life, it’s easy to forget that we live in God’s presence and that we are accountable to Him for our choices. That’s why, sometimes, God has to step into our world to remind us of this. In the Old Testament, He did this through the prophets, who were His voice to the people. Although their books were written centuries ago, their voice still rings out clearly and is astonishingly relevant to us today as well. We, too, have similar questions and face similar challenges. So let’s listen to what God is saying to us through His prophets known as the “minor prophets.” They were called this not because they were less important, but simply because their books were shorter. Short and very timely.
