An innocent man spent eighteen years in prison because a whole chain of people preferred to believe their own assumptions rather than the facts. That story opens a reflection on Jesus entering Jerusalem and cleansing the temple (Matthew 21), on a crowd greeting the king of its own dreams, and on leaders who turned a house of prayer into a marketplace. Confrontation! Some people fear it, while others love it. However, regardless of how we view confrontation, it is a part of our lives and is sometimes necessary. That is why, in order to learn how to confront others wisely, we turn to Jesus’ teaching, which we find in the Gospel of Matthew. Through it, we can learn not to run away from problems and difficult situations, but to face them in the right way.
