Who’s in Charge Here?

In a comedy sketch a married couple try to settle who is the head of the family, and the line falls that the husband has been head for thirty five years and still is not coping. It amuses us right up until we hear the same question in our own home, over holiday plans or the household budget. That sketch opens a sermon about the fifth chapter of Ephesians (Ephesians 5). Paul begins with a sentence that ruins the whole argument about power, because he tells husbands and wives to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
