Towards the end of her life, the grandmother of one of the worship leaders no longer remembered her own children’s names and took the husband sleeping beside her for a stranger. What she did remember was every song she had sung in church over the years, and not single verses but whole long texts. That story is told in a sermon about why we gather on a Sunday at all (Acts 2). The first Christians listened, answered in song and prayer, and shared what they had so that nobody among them went without. Listen if you have been doing these things for years and the question of why has not come up in a long time.

What For?
A Christian worship service is not complicated in form, but that does not mean it is not worth pausing for a moment to reflect on the meaning of its various elements. The purpose of all this is to experience worship even more deeply and to nurture our relationship with God and His Church even more consciously.
