Renaissance painters discovered that a viewer’s eye always travels to the one place in a picture where darkness meets light. The technique is called chiaroscuro, and the most famous Nativity scenes were painted exactly that way. That observation opens a sermon about the ninth chapter of Isaiah (Isaiah 9). The prophet sets a people walking in darkness beside a great light, King Ahaz lacks the courage to believe the sign of Immanuel, and centuries later Joseph faces the same choice. Turning Point
When we get stuck somewhere on our journey through life, we eventually realize that we need a turning point and a fresh start because we cannot cope on our own with the problems that have befallen us. Jesus Christ is that turning point. His coming changed the course of world history and marked the beginning of a New Era. That is why He alone can change the course of every person’s life and open a new chapter in their life. A turning point lies ahead of us.
