During the Great Depression the Talcott family had no money for presents, so they hung pictures cut out of magazines on the tree, showing the things they would have liked to give one another. Their six year old son then handed over his own drawing: three people standing side by side and the caption us. That story opens a sermon about the fortieth chapter of Isaiah (Isaiah 40). God speaks there to a nation sitting in a captivity it had brought on itself, and instead of a verdict he announces comfort and a call to straighten out its paths. Turning Point
When we get stuck somewhere on our journey through life, we eventually realize that we need a turning point and a fresh start because we cannot cope on our own with the problems that have befallen us. Jesus Christ is that turning point. His coming changed the course of world history and marked the beginning of a New Era. That is why He alone can change the course of every person’s life and open a new chapter in their life. A turning point lies ahead of us.
