A castaway drifting off the mouth of the Amazon is convinced that the water around him is salt, and dies of thirst. In fact the river freshens the ocean four hundred kilometres out, so he could have drunk at any moment. That picture opens a sermon about the thirty fifth chapter of Isaiah (Isaiah 35). The prophet announces a desert that will bloom and a road on which even a fool will not go astray, because God himself comes for his people and leads them home from exile. Listen if this Christmas you feel more like an exile than someone who belongs.

Turning Point
When we get stuck somewhere on our journey through life, we eventually realize that we need a turning point and a fresh start because we cannot cope on our own with the problems that have befallen us. Jesus Christ is that turning point. His coming changed the course of world history and marked the beginning of a New Era. That is why He alone can change the course of every person’s life and open a new chapter in their life. A turning point lies ahead of us.
