Someone divided a human life into four stages: first you believe in Santa Claus, then you stop believing in him, then you are him, and finally you look like him. It is funny only until we notice that each of us has two appointments nobody made on purpose: with old age and with death. That observation opens a sermon about how to prepare for the meeting with God. The end is not something to think about at the end, but much earlier, while there is still something to be done about it. Listen if you keep putting off the most important conversations.

Life is all about change and facing new challenges, and some of them seem to be more than we can handle. To better rise to this challenge, it’s worth turning to the Book of Joshua, which tells the story of how the Israelites, though they didn’t feel prepared, had to enter their long-awaited Promised Land. It turns out that as we move forward, what matters most is who we walk with and whom we listen to.
