Close your eyes for a moment and picture the Christmas table, the smells, the noise, the people you would want seated there. That image opens an Advent reflection on the banquet God himself promises in Isaiah 25: a feast of the finest food, where the shroud of death is destroyed and tears are wiped from every face. The sermon asks plainly who is invited and what actually gets you in. Listen, and consider who you might pass the invitation on to.

The Gospel According to Isaiah? We’re very familiar with the four Gospels, but we’ve never heard of one like this. However, although the prophet Isaiah lived long before the time of Jesus and the writing of the four Gospels, his book is so filled with hope for future salvation that some call Isaiah the evangelist of the Old Testament. In his book, we find numerous prophecies of the coming of the promised Savior and images of renewal. That is why, as we prepare for the upcoming Christmas season, we want to listen to the Gospel according to Isaiah, who waited for the Messiah and helped others in that waiting.
