“They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom”, that cry from the screen opens a reflection on freedom, which turns out to be something quite different from what we assume. The sermon leads to the Red Sea, where the newly freed Israelites are trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the water (Exodus 14). Free of their chains, they still behave like slaves, slaves of fear and of circumstances. Listen and ask yourself whom you actually serve, and what God wants to set you free for.

We live in a world where the stronger often prevail, and they are the ones who are right. That is why we wonder if there is any hope for those whose voices no one heeds, and who do not have enough strength to stand up for themselves. The Book of Exodus tells the story of how God intervenes in the lives of slaves to make them His people, give them a new identity, and teach them how to live their daily lives with Him. And that, after all, is what we all need on our journey through life.
