You come home to your parents, you knock, your father opens the door, sees your face and shuts it. That is exactly the position of the Christians in Philadelphia, a city whose name means brotherly love, cut off from the congregation for their allegiance to Jesus (Revelation 3). Conflict between brothers is a biblical pattern, from Cain and Abel to Saul and David, and the trouble is not that everyone believes themselves right, but what each of them takes as the standard. Listen if allegiance to Jesus has ever cost you a door shut in your face and you are still waiting to be proved right.

Along the route once used to deliver mail were the seven churches of Asia Minor. It is to these communities that Jesus addresses the seven letters found in the Book of Revelation. However, upon reading them carefully, we discover that their message is astonishingly relevant today and applies to the entire Church and to all followers of Jesus who, in various places and circumstances, await His second coming.
