A car shears off a pine tree seven meters above the ground and lands on a garage next to a church, though the gate stays locked, some events leave us asking only: what on earth happened here? The same question hangs over Mount Sinai, where a nation that had just seen the sea part and entered a covenant with God dances around a golden calf (Exodus 32).
