Can someone please tidy up in here? We say it over a messy kitchen, but also as we look at a world where the wrong people seem to be dealing the cards. This sermon reads the ten plagues of Egypt (Exodus 7-12) as a drama in three acts with a closing scene, in which God answers the question of who he really is. Divine judgement turns out to have two sides: an end to evil, and freedom for those who trusted him. Listen if you are waiting for someone to finally say: enough.

We live in a world where the stronger often prevail, and they are the ones who are right. That is why we wonder if there is any hope for those whose voices no one heeds, and who do not have enough strength to stand up for themselves. The Book of Exodus tells the story of how God intervenes in the lives of slaves to make them His people, give them a new identity, and teach them how to live their daily lives with Him. And that, after all, is what we all need on our journey through life.
