How can you tell that God is really with you? That is exactly what Moses asked after the disaster of the golden calf, when he heard that the people would enter the promised land but God would not go with them (Exodus 33). We live in a world where the stronger often prevail, and they are the ones who are right. That is why we wonder if there is any hope for those whose voices no one heeds, and who do not have enough strength to stand up for themselves. The Book of Exodus tells the story of how God intervenes in the lives of slaves to make them His people, give them a new identity, and teach them how to live their daily lives with Him. And that, after all, is what we all need on our journey through life.
