A young couple dreams of married life, then wakes up to a tube of toothpaste squeezed in the middle instead of rolled from the end. That is exactly where the mountaintop ends and daily life begins, and that is where this sermon starts, with an Israel that has only just crossed the sea and is already complaining in the desert about having no water and no food (Exodus 15-17). God provides water, manna and quail day after day, and underneath it all he asks one question: do you really believe that I am with you? Listen if you too find it easier to trust God on the mountaintop than in a week you simply have to get through.

Exodus
We live in a world where the stronger often prevail, and they are the ones who are right. That is why we wonder if there is any hope for those whose voices no one heeds, and who do not have enough strength to stand up for themselves. The Book of Exodus tells the story of how God intervenes in the lives of slaves to make them His people, give them a new identity, and teach them how to live their daily lives with Him. And that, after all, is what we all need on our journey through life.
