After years of wandering they were finally coming home, and found rubble: the walls of Jerusalem torn down, the temple destroyed, the city sinking into darkness every night. That image opens a reflection on Isaiah 60, where God promises to bring light into the life of his people and to open the city gates to every nation. The sermon carries it further, to the New Jerusalem of Revelation 21, painted in the same colours, only greater still. Listen if you sometimes feel homeless in this world and long for a place that will truly be yours.

The Gospel According to Isaiah? We’re very familiar with the four Gospels, but we’ve never heard of one like this. However, although the prophet Isaiah lived long before the time of Jesus and the writing of the four Gospels, his book is so filled with hope for future salvation that some call Isaiah the evangelist of the Old Testament. In his book, we find numerous prophecies of the coming of the promised Savior and images of renewal. That is why, as we prepare for the upcoming Christmas season, we want to listen to the Gospel according to Isaiah, who waited for the Messiah and helped others in that waiting.
