This sermon walks through 1 Corinthians 12 and 13 and asks why God gives spiritual gifts at all, and how we can tell that they truly come from him. It turns out that a gift is neither a reward for piety nor a reason for pride, but something given to one person for the good of many, and without love it loses its meaning entirely. What Does Spiritual Mean?
What do we mean when we say that something is “spiritual” or not? In today’s world, this word has taken on a multitude of meanings and associations. Meanwhile, Scripture shows us that everything we do with our lives is spiritual in nature, “whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31) and should reflect His nature. How, then, can what we do reflect the Trinitarian nature of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
