A young missionary in a Peruvian village carved a gravestone for his infant son with his own hands and stood over the grave every noon until he fell ill himself. That story opens a reflection on the prophet Elijah, who right after the greatest victory of his life fled into the desert and asked God to take his life (1 Kings 19). The sermon shows how easily we lose perspective, and how God treats someone who has had enough: he comes not with reproach but with food, and then meets him in a healing silence. Listen if your work, your service or your prayers feel completely pointless right now.
When You Have Had Enough!
Do You Hear God?
As we go through life, we hear many different voices. We ignore some of them, while we pay more attention to others. From this cacophony of sounds, we must choose the right ones, because so much in life depends on whom you listen to.
However, in the daily hustle and bustle, it’s easy to miss the most important voice-the voice of God Himself.
In the story of the prophet Elijah, everyone faces the same challenge:
Will they listen? Will the king listen? Will Israel listen? And even-will the prophet himself listen?
In this story, full of noise and conflicting voices, there are those who not only heard but also listened. Sometimes they are the least likely people.
But the most important question is:
Will I hear-and will I obey?
