At a wedding the groom was told to greet the most important woman in the room with a kiss on the hand, and he kissed the hand of the cleaning lady. The room froze, though in truth nobody had done anything wrong except let words run ahead of thought. That story opens a sermon about the sixth chapter of Proverbs (Proverbs 6). The writer speaks there of a man trapped by the words of his own mouth, of laziness to be cured by watching an ant, and of the things God hates, among them sowing discord among brothers. Listen if you want your words and your actions finally to match.
