Mateusz had everything: well off parents, a western car outside the block, a talent for football and the goodwill of the whole estate. In the nineties he joined a gang, it ended in a shootout in the city centre, and a few years later in an assault that left him scarred. That story opens a sermon about the first chapter of Proverbs (Proverbs 1). Wisdom calls out in the street before we make the mistake, because time cannot be turned back, and the proverb about being wise after the event is bitter precisely because it is true. And all of this is so that we may know how to live wisely and end our lives wisely.
